Hunting Binoculars

Hunting Binoculars

A good hunter needs good binoculars. In this article I will briefly outline the key requirements of good hunting binoculars and provide suggestions on which ones will be best for the job and why.

Lens size
If you’re a morning hunter or dusk hunter you will need larger lens sizes. Larger lenses means more light is transmitted to your eyes allowing you a better view of your prey. Normally, the larger the lens, means higher the price. However, you can generally find binoculars with large lens sizes at an afordable price.

Anti-reflective properties
The sun can be a hunter’s worst nightmare. To combat this hazard it is a good idea to purchase a pair of binoculars with anti-reflective properties that negate the suns rays. A good pair has these properties is the Nikon Monarch 8 x 42 binoculars.

Magnification
You need to ask yourself, how far away is the prey? This will determine what magnification will suit you. If the prey is relatively close you won't want to buy an expensive x12 magnification binoculars when you probably won’t use the x12 magnification feature! Generally speaking, hunters use a x8 or x10 magnification binoculars.

Weather conditions
What time of day will you be hunting? Early in the morning? Or near dusk? You need to consider these factors when buying your pair of binoculars. For instance early morning fog can interfere with you sighting your prey. Therefore, you may want to buy a pair of binoculars that are fog proof.
It is important to buy binoculars for the conditions you will be hunting in.

Weight
This applys to all binoculars. It is not a good idea to be carrying around a heavy pair of binoculars all day. Try and find a nice lightweight pair that you will feel comfortable holding for long periods of time.

Toughness
Hunting involves trekking across rugged terrains and therefore you want to make sure your binoculars last the distance. Having a good rubber armour and thick lens as well as being waterproof and shockproof is a definite MUST.

Recommendations:
All the points I have mentioned above are features built into the Nikon Monarch ATB 8 x 42 waterproof binoculars. They have good magnification, anti reflective properties, large lenses, are built to be tough (even comes with a 25 year warranty) and are lightweight, waterproof, shockproof and fog proof.
